Redistricting – A Threat to the 40th and dilusion of the San Juan vote

I thought that what with us being a county of islands, they can’t possibly do anything that would harm us.  How wrong I was.  The redistricting committee involves two Democrats and two Republicans.  I just found out that the two Democrats want to break up the 40th LD.  Under their plan, San Juan County would become part of the 10th LD, which is largely Whidbey Island.  Instead of having our wonderful progressive representatives and senator, we would likely have legislators who are closer to the center if not to the right of center.  And there is no guarantee that Debra, Alex, and Liz would retain their seats.  Rep. Debra Lekanoff will be attending our upcoming meeting to tell us how we can help in the fight against this plan.  There may also be an opportunity to send comments before that to support keeping our district whole.  Look for upcoming notices.  If you would like to look at the different proposed maps for redistricting, go to https://www.redistricting.wa.gov/commissioner-proposed-maps

Elections and Conflicts at the Mullis Senior Center Election Process

Also at our meeting, will be a discussion what what is going on with the Mullis Community Senior Center Elections and why this is an important community issue. This is more than a spat among angry people, this is serious business which will have profound effects on Island life- including yours. So please attend. These issues have long term consequences and we need to figure out what to do…
