Could our narcissistic sociopathic White Supremacist President have committed treason?

NOTE: He is now 73, not 71 – it is detailed in the text below the photos, specifically the left photo, which is the one with his hands holding the charges plate. This image was made a while ago.

If so, then he would be in great company with Nixon, Reagan, and George W. Bush who have all engaged in treasonous acts either on the road to the Presidency or while they were President. At this point it certainly appears that #45POTUS has joined this illustrious list. Shall we call him #45IdiOTUS? There’s a pattern to the treason as well. What’s worse about this is the relative inaction by the Democrats in the face of all this evidence generated over many decades. Who was alive at the time and doesn’t remember the complete soul-crushing disappointment with the Iran Contra scandal and then Attorney General (AG) William Barr’s eventual pardoning of the handful of guilty parties who were finally dealt justice – that was his first stint as treason-enabling AG. Is it insanity to see the same things come up and for some reason still hope for a different outcome? You would think the Democrats were becoming more complicit over time and maybe they were.

But first a definition from Cornell Law:

n. the crime of betraying one’s country, defined in Article III, section 3 of the U.S. Constitution: “Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.” Treason requires overt acts and includes the giving of government security secrets to other countries, even if friendly, when the information could harm American security. Treason can include revealing to an antagonistic country secrets such as the design of a bomber being built by a private company for the Defense Department. Treason may include “espionage” (spying for a foreign power or doing damage to the operation of the government and its agencies, particularly those involved in security) but is separate and worse than “sedition,” which involves a conspiracy to upset the operation of the government.

The Penalty: Death is on the list of punishments.

Detailing the list of treasonous crimes by past and present Presidents

Nixon – Treason for negotiating with South Vietnam to refuse a ceasefire being brokered by President Lyndon Johnson so that he could win the election.

Reagan – Treason for negotiating with Iran over the hostage crisis and preventing President Jimmy Carter from reaching an agreement so that he could win the election. Also the Iran-Contra scandal.

George W Bush – Treason for outing a CIA operative, Valerie Plame, as part of their strategy to go to war with Iraq. Also they fabricated evidence in that strategy to go to war. One could argue that war is the best re-election strategy ever.

Donald Trump – Colluding with Russia to get elected which included the wikileaks and hacking the vote to get elected, “catch and kill” of sex scandals to get elected, Emoluments clause violations to line his pockets involving foreign interests and as yet undefined quid pro quo’s, outing a CIA operative working deep in Putin’s inner circle in Moscow when the Ruskies were visiting the Oval office, quid pro quo with the Ukraine on dirt against Biden in exchange for arms followed by a cover-up. And the many cover-ups, the obstructions of justice and the witness tampering. The most recent act, which technically isn’t a crime, is to call for the execution of the whistle blower. Did anyone leave the Mueller phase of this Presidency and believe that #45IdiOTUS was not guilty? And yet the Democrats were for the most part unmoved, especially leadership like Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi – it is not helpful to merely blame them without acknowledging the broader impact of “Money in Politics” on this picture however. See the NY Times Opinion Article link List (below) for a more exhaustive detailing of #45IdiOTUS’s crimes.

The Patterns

The Republicans are duty-bound to stand behind each other, even if it means that they all jump off a cliff like lemmings, so you will not see them breaking ranks even when treason is on the list of charges being waged against one of their own. This represents a mindless commitment to their campaign donors.

Republican Presidential treason centers around election and re-election. If you put this into a bigger context, the Republicans clearly demonstrate a Machiavellian obsession with the “ends justify the means” when it comes to winning elections – we see this most clearly with Gerrymandering, and voter suppression tactics like voter ID laws, leveraging the “New Jim Crow” to disenfranchise minorities via felony convictions relating to the “War On Drugs” that remove their right to vote, deleting people from the voter rolls, and many other unethical and illegal actions. This proclivity towards gaming the elections is because they know that their agenda as a political party is losing ground with the people, so if democracy continues to proceed naturally they would see their political footholds slipping away. To rephrase this and put it into the context of history, while in the past the focus has been on human rights for minorities and women – like the Voter Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act and the failed Equal Rights Amendment – this may not have addressed the real root cause of the problem then and now and it may not be just a Republican party problem either. Yes, people like Hitler utilized racism to gain power and generate a fascist “Storm Trooper” frenzy of vigilantes, but the racism was not the essence of the problem – the root cause was the rich and their corporations who funded Hitler’s efforts and fueled the collective brainwashing of society because there was so much money to be made from the war machine they had been dreaming about. In the same way #45IdiOTUS follows this playbook, as has Nixon, Reagan, George W Bush, and even George HW Bush before him.

What is the motive?

There is so much money to be made from paying to have an official elected to represent your financial interests, or your corporation, that democracy itself has become an impediment to increasing corporate profits. Current popular assessments say that a campaign donor gets at least 10X back from their campaign investments – yes, destroying democracy is an investment that has great returns for the quarterly earnings call. And we think that Corporations are people – they are the legal conduit for real people to screw democracy, so that they can gain more control over government, devise new ways to extract wealth from the voters, basically colonize the country via political influence, and become even richer.

The wealthy donors who drive the “Money in Politics” agenda don’t give a hoot about democracy. They know that the ROI on their campaign investments will get at least a 10x return, so whatever means it takes – even treason – justifies the results. Put another way, what would you do if you knew that by doing this you could turn $100,000 into $1,000,000? The Faustian bargains are very compelling, so it should not surprise us that we regularly have traitors in the White House.

An assessment of what it all means:

Our political institutions have been co-opted by “Money in Politics.” They are broken.

The Civil Rights movement did not fix the problem in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, because it didn’t address the root cause: “Money in Politics” and the impact of rising wealth and income inequality on democracy.

Anything is fair game when Corporate profits are on the line – even democracy itself.

Our democratic processes and democracy itself are no longer working for the average American.

What do we need to do about it?

Focus on the root cause of the problem, which is the impact of rising wealth and income inequality on our democracy. We must unite all of the people who are disenfranchised, and the platform for uniting them is to bring democracy back so that we can bring true equality to this country, and take on job of solving other existential problems like global warming. It is clear now, and it has been proven repeatedly throughout human history, that a society run by rich people – be it an oligarchy or royalty – is a formula for suffering, death and ruin for the people and the environment. The role of government is to do the most good for the most people and the environment for the longest time.

Yes, #45IdiOTUS committed treason, and we should not be surprised by that. He was not alone as he has a White House administration and an entire political party that has powerful rich donors backing him up and providing full support for this agenda. We the people should not settle for less as we have over the past 40+ years – we should demand justice and settle for nothing less than the delivery of full justice to all who have engaged in treason, obstruction of justice, lying, witness tampering, bribery, extortion, Emoluments clause violations, organized crime and whatever else comes out of this. If the death penalty is one of the punishments on offer, there is no crime greater than treason so it must be considered as well. It is inspiring to see the tremendous progress made by determined and competent people seeking to end the human rights violations perpetrated in pursuit of the racist, sadistic and unjust versions of executions currently observed across our country, as they have all but eliminated this form of punishment, but executing the “white collar” workers who enabled Corporate-sponsored treason to bolster their bottom line will most definitely serve as a game changer – unlike the typical murderer those Corporate actors will choose their lives over the bottom line every time. These crimes must be punished severely as a deterrent that alters the ROI calculus, and the people must rebuild our institutions in a way that strengthens, reinforces, preserves and maintains democracy into the future. Removing the right of “Corporations are People” since they are only gaming our political process is probably essential as well. Finally taxing the wealth and income of the rich will serve as the final “speed regulator/rev limiter” and eliminate the motivation for likes of the Bezos’s, Gates’s, Buffet’s, Walton’s and Koch’s of the world to pursue their insane dreams of world domination.

To solve this problem of chronic treason we must acknowledge the dynamic of rich people and their Corporations using money to gain power over our political system – our government. Solving this problem demands that we focus on building institutions that support democracy and ensure that it is working properly. Once that is solved then the Civil Rights Movement and the Equal Rights Movement will finally achieve its objectives: equality for all regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, economic status and so on. We will also need to ensure that our education systems, news media and other institutions responsible for providing knowledge and engaging in research are healthy and focused on doing the most good for the most people and the environment for the longest time.

Maybe we need to revisit the past crimes from past Presidents (e.g. Barr for pardoning the Contra-gate criminals, and George W Bush for the Iraq War) as part of that process of bringing the country whole, and serving justice retroactively. If we look at the people of Spain, who have still not recovered from the fascist horrors of Franco, one could argue that society needs to recognize and heal its wounds before it can meaningfully move on.

Salon just published an article making the connection between Nixon and Trump on the leveraging of foreign influence for political gain during a Presidential election:

I think that the definition of treason should be:

Knowingly and actively disregarding the will of the people.

For example, if 90% of Americans want gun control, to me it involves systemic treason to persist in perpetuating governing institutions that willfully disregard the will of the people. Same deal for global warming.
