Special Elections – take back the state

October 30, 2017 by stephenshubert

There are a number of races of note and which, if won, would change the balance of the Washington  State legislature. There are also pressing local issues which require attention.  If you have not voted, please do so.  If you can afford to make a contribution, or telephone for any of the candidates, please do so. We’re nearing Election Day, and we need your help to get out the vote. We’re switching gears and holding GOTV canvasses and phone banks across the state through Election Day. Sign up to volunteer. Or you can find a GOTV canvass and phone bank near you to help get democrats elected!

Anna Lisa Lindstrum, San Juan County Hospital District:  “I especially encourage you to cast your vote for Anna Lisa Lindstrum for the hospital district position  She is the only candidate endorsed by Planned Parenthood, which is all I need to know. “- David Turnoy, Chair Democratic Party, San Juan

Manka Dhingra:  Joe Biden endorsed Manka Dhingra for State Senate in the 45th Legislative District. And he’s not alone – Democratic leaders across Washington State are taking the time to weigh in on this election – because it is so important for the future of our Evergreen State. If Manka Dhingra takes this seat, Democrats take back the state Senate, and you and your family will see the difference. See what Washington State Democrats Chair Tina Podlodowski and other leaders statewide had to say about the race here.

Safe Shippers, San Juan:
Please join us at a hearing where Skagit County will be considering Tesoro/Andeavor’s application for a Shoreline Substantial Development Permit. If allowed, this permit would be another step forward in Tesoro/Andeavor’s plan to manufacture and export xylene — a highly volatile, hazardous and toxic petrochemical.
Safe Shippers have an opportunity to ask Skagit County to withhold the permit until the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for this project is amended — amended to actually protect the environment!

We do not want an additional 120 annual tank vessel transits through the Salish Sea, increasing the risk of an oil spill — or worse, a xylene spill — in the waters surrounding our islands.
