The public of San Juan County is invited to a meeting at 9:30 – 11:30 am on Monday, January 11 in the community meeting room at Skagit Valley College in Friday Harbor. It will be a citizen meeting without the presence of county officials.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the proposed update of the existing Shoreline Master Program (SMP) under consideration by the County Council in preparation for the meetings listed below. Kyle Loring of Friends of the San Juans and former county planner Shireene Hale will lead the discussion.
In particular, the meeting will concentrate on citizen concerns with the details of the proposed update (underwater pipelines, fish pens, redesignations, habitat protection, etc.) and on development of specific corresponding questions to ask the Council at the following three town hall meetings it has scheduled for next week:
Tuesday, January 12, 3 – 5 pm, at Legislative Hearing Room in Friday Harbor.
Wednesday, January 13, 3:30 – 5:30 pm, at Eastsound Fire Station in Eastsound.
Thursday, January 14, 4:30 – 6:30 pm, at Lopez Center for Community and the Arts on Lopez Island.
If you are interested in the SMP update but are unable to attend on Monday, we will post a YouTube video of the meeting on Monday afternoon.
